The morning was damp and dreary. The sun was still hidden behind the clouds, and the mountains only peaking out periodically behind the deep fog. This was our first official morning of the long hike; with our packs on, the journey of what would feel like a thousand miles began. Hopefulness filled our eyes as we knew that our journey centered around finding The One that Jehova Jireh had set aside for us.
The team had mentally prepared for a fourteen-kilometer hike, not letting the dreariness alter our hope. That fourteen-kilometer hike was halted by the still small voice telling us to stop and talk with a group of eight from Czechoslovakia. As the conversation went on, we slowly realized that they weren’t really Christians, but they loved to help in that part of Georgia.
These were the friends that we ran into. This was our second day with them after we finished moving all the rocks we were sitting on.
We then said our goodbyes and began our walk again, stopping by our Team Leader, Jerome. He, and honestly the rest of us, felt like we were supposed to stop and help them do the job they were currently doing, which was moving rocks (A lot of rocks). So, we prayed, through the prompting of the Holy Spirit, stopped. We set our bags down and began helping them move the rocks; in the midst of moving these rocks (which was super fun, by the way, we made a game out of it), we began conversing about the gospel. Each one of us thinking and asking ourselves, ‘Are you the One?’
This was so much fun. I honestly didn’t think I could have as much fun as I did moving rocks. Our friends also began enjoying moving the rocks; it became a game for us.
Jerome was going off and sharing his testimony. Diving deep into what God had done in his life.
Were they the ones God had us do the trek for? I couldn’t tell you, but what I can tell you is that God had an impact on them because we said Yes. Yes to the trek, yes to stopping, yes to finishing the job with them, and yes to fulfilling what he had for us. It’s amazing what the King of kings will do with a simple Yes. Our journey continued with finding The One as we packed up, after staying in Omalo for two days, and moved on to the next village. Here, we learned that sometimes moving forward is the correct option, even if it makes more sense to turn around and go back.
This was a beautiful location that we went to often, especially before our journey to the next little town.
The joy of the Lord!!! I love hearing these stories of Yielding to God and God directing, and then creating these experiences for sharing His love with others!
What a journey He is taking you and the team on! I completely agree with Cheri. These stories are a blessing for us to hear of the ways God is leading and guiding you guys daily. As you mentioned He will if we are listening. Kia Kaha! Love you!!!
